Sound Good or Be Powerful?

I know our culture elevates image and perception as golden nuggets. We all care about how others perceive us and that drives many to do crazy things. It’s undeniable that our clothes, music, and friends can shift like sand if our image is threatened. Social media is a new stadium in the perception and image game. Do I have a cool enough Tweet or Facebook status? How many likes can I receive? Can I say the most off the wall statement that will give my heart a boost in ego?

Would you rather sound good or be powerful? This may sound simple but in all reality you and I choose sounding, looking, and feeling good over living powerful. We study all the new trends, tips, and tricks that will give us bigger applause, more recognition, and of course more likes on our status.

Listen to an example of POWER: “When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.” 1 Corinthians 2:1-5

Now this passage should karate chop your heart or at least you’re envious of such freedom. A God centered heart will NOT allow the pressure of performance, perception, and image to be the steering wheel. Paul substituted sounding good for living powerful and so can you.

Power Nuggets

  1. Don’t rely on your swagger or communication skills
  2. Be humble and allow your weakness to remind you of God’s strength
  3. Know your message and purpose in life
  4. Walk in the spirit and not in flesh
  5. Teach people to rely on God and not YOU.
What would happen in our schools if the students at Collide decided to live powerful over sounding good?

Dropping Bombs!

I stopped back at the church office to finish up some work and I noticed a lingering toxic smell. Confused and nauseous I asked the student chilling in my office if he knew what was up. He told me that he dropped a bomb in the bathroom down the hall. I was disgusted and amazed all at the same time. Somehow this so called "bomb" infiltrated the entire church offices and every hallway. You couldn't escape the reality of what had happened. To my amazement this guy was proud, collected, & unfazed at the havoc and discomfort he caused the entire church.

While driving today I was thinking of a parallel and how we fail to  drop "bomb's" for Christ in our lives. When was the last time your love for Jesus Christ infiltrated an entire room? When was the last time God's calling on your life made the people around you uncomfortable? I am not saying go out and try to drop little christian bombs...our culture has enough of those and it's annoying. I'm talking about being so filled with the spirit of God that your a walking bomb and you don't even know it.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked our for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Hebrews 12:1-2

You're surrounded.
Fix your eyes on the target: JESUS
It's time to drop a bomb.
Go clear a room.

Make those around you uncomfortable with Truth and Love. Your only focus should be glorifying Jesus Christ. If you are satisfied solely in Him then you are a walking bomb! Set Christ a part as Lord within your heart and watch Him change lives around you. It's always uncomfortable when something bigger than us is in the room; let it be Jesus.

Love you guys,

Brian
